Nepal draws Pakistan 1-1‚ makes it to semifinals

KATHMANDU: Nepal has marched to the semifinals of ongoing seventh SAFF Championship after holding Pakistan in a 1-1 draw in their last match of Group B played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Statdium in New Delhi on Tuesday. With today's results, Nepal has five points--with two draws and a victory.


Nepal's Bharat Khawas scored a goal against Pakistan at the 36th minute of the match.
However, it failed to maintain the lead in the 48th minute as Pakistan levelled the score in a penatly shot.


Pakistan was awarded the spot kick against Sandip Rai, who had scored for Nepal in the first group match against the Maldives, for fouled on Kallem Ullah in the 47the minute. Pakistan's Samar Ishaq cashed in on the kick to level the score.

In the 60th minute, Nepal's Robin Shrestha and Pakistan's Mohammad R were injured after they collided with each other. Both of them were rushed to hospital for treatment. The match was resumed after a pause of eight minutes.

The second half witnessed an additional six minutes as the injury time.

The match kick started at 3:15pm IST.

Nepal tops the Group B with five points. Pakistan ended up drawing all three matches and has three points.

A tie was enough for Nepal to make it to the semifinals, while Pakistan needed to beat Nepal in today's match to secure position in the round-of-four.
