General Cleaning Procedure

1. Dusting/vacuuming all around by clockwise or anti-clockwise

2. Use soapy water to remove strong stains and dust particle.

3. Scrub it all over where there are strong stains and dust particle.

4. Dry all over which have been cleaned by wet mop using (dry) floor duster.

5. Clean the glasses using soapy water and then dry it.

6. After that apply Colin on the glasses and scrub it by newspaper.

7. If there is not that much hard and strong stains clean by only using floor duster.

Glass and window cleaning: Housekeeping

Cleaning equipment and agents:

· Bucket/ Basin- 2 nos.

· Net brush

· Dust bin/ dust pan

· Glass duster

· Rag or pad

· Sponge

· Newspaper

· Water

· Colin

· Liquid soap/ surf

Cleaning Process:

1. Cover the areas under the glass by newspaper or discarded cloth.

2. Clean and dust the glass, window pane and frame.

3. If there is more dust then make a solution of liquid soap and water in one bucket and clean water in another bucket.

4. Clean the pane with soapy water by sponge. If there is stain then rub with abrasive (blade can be used).

5. Clean it with clean water and dry the glass with dry glass duster.

6. Spray the Colin and wipe with newspaper.

Carpet Shampooing :Housekeeping

Equipment and agents:

· Carpet brush/ Vacuum cleaner

· Dust bin and dust pan

· Bucket.

· Floor duster

· Shampooing brush

· Water

· Liquid soap/ shampoo

· Dettol

Process:

1. Roll the carpet and take the open space.

2. Place it wrong side up and beat it with the help of stick.

3. Roll the carpet and keep it aside and remove loose dust from underneath the carpet with the help of dustpan and broom.

4. Again place the carpet facing right side up.

5. Take four bucket, in the first bucket take the solution of water and liquid soap, in the second bucket take clean water, in the third bucket take the solution of vinegar and water and in last bucket take water and Dettol.

6. From the first bucket take the lather part only with the help of a duster or a sponge.

7. Apply the lather to the carpet in a circular motion and pay particular attention to the edge of the carpet.

8. Take the clean duster, wrung out completely and remove all the lather from the carpet. Make sure to use minimum water as possible as the water may damage the carpet.

9. Again take another clean cloth and dip it in the solution of water and dettol, wrung out completely and wipe the carpet.

10. Finally finish dying in a shaded area.

11. While shampooing carpet you can use electric shampooing machine as well.

Cleaning Procedure
1. Open windows (if any) and vents.
2. Shake out all soiled bathroom linen and deposit them in the linen hamper of the maid’s cart.
3. Collect trash from the bathroom dustbin and deposit it in the trash bag of the maid cart.
4. Clean the ceiling and air-conditioning vents for cobwebs.
5. Wipe bulbs and light shades with a dry duster. Check that all the bulbs are working.
6. Wipe down tiles and walls using sponge or damp duster. Follow with a dry cloth ensuring that tiles are free of water marks.
7. Clean mirror first with a dry duster and then with a damp newspaper and finally with a dry duster. Ensure that the mirror is smudge-free.
8. Wipe and dry the shower curtain with a sponge.
9. Scrub and dry the area next to the wash basin.
10. Scrub and clean dry the bath tub ensuring that the water faucets and shower are sparkling and in working condition.
11. Scrub the toilet bowl and bidet using toilet brush or mop and ensure that the inner rim is clean, dry and spotless. Clean water closet from outside with sponge till it is sparkling and dry. Clean the lid and toilet seat and dry it.
12. Replenish fresh bath linen and guest supplies as per the number of persons in the room
13. Scrub the floor with the mop and ensure it is dry.
14. Finally close the windows; shut all the lights and close the bathroom door.

Guest Room Cleaning: Housekeeping

Procedure:
A. Cleaning of Vacant Room
Vacant room is a room which is ready for sale but not occupied.
The time to clean vacant room is 8:00 A.M.-4 P.M. or 9:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M.

The following procedures are followed while attending a vacant room:
1. Airing the room.
2. Check the lights, bulbs, air-condition, telephone, channel music, etc.
3. Dust the surface with the help of damp duster
4. Check the hot and cold water supply in the bathroom.
5. Check the necessary supplies for the vacant room.





Cleaning of an Occupied Room
Occupied room is a room which is being use by the guest. Occupied room is attended twice a day, during the morning for the first time and for the second time it is attended during an evening which is also called turn down service. The following steps are considered while cleaning an occupied room:

1. Firstly ensure that the room does not have DND card on the door knob. If there is dnd card or room is double locked, don’t disturb move to another room.

2. Always knock the door announcing “house Keeping” before entering the room
3. Switch off the room air conditioner or heating system. Draw the curtains, open the window for airing the room. Switch on the lights if the room is dark.
4. Remove the soiled linen from both bed and bathrooms. Shake out all linen to ensure that no guest valuables are trapped within the folds and deposit it in the linen basket of the maid’s cart.
5. Check for the maintenance required or any damaged articles in the room and report to the concerned.
6. Inform room service for the clearance of soiled dishes and early morning tea or breakfast trays (if any).
7. Empty ashtrays, waste paper basket and generally tidy room.
8. Attend to the bathroom. Clean the wash basin, commode, bath tub etc. Fold towels and check for the bathroom supplies.
9. Take out the fresh linen from the trolley and Make a bed in appropriate manner by following bed making procedure
10. Arrange the guest’s belonging, magazines, newspapers etc.
11. Disinfectant the telephone and dust all the surface with the help of duster
12. Dust all furniture and fittings.
13. Replenish the guest room supplies as prescribed by the management.
14. Sweep or vacuum the carpet.
15. Switch on the ac at the previous temperature, pull all the curtain.
16. Give final look, close door and update the room report.






Cleaning of Departure Room
A departure room is a room which is left by the guest and need to be prepared for next use. The following steps are considered while cleaning a departure room:
1. Firstly ensure that the room does not have DND card on the door knob and always knock the door announcing “house Keeping”.
2. Open the window, if necessary remove early morning tea or breakfast tray.
3. Look for lost property and wipe out drawers, inside of wardrobe and check for coat hangers.
4. Strip the bed, remove soiled linen including towels.
5. Empty ashtray, waste paper basket, etc.
6. Make a bed with fresh linen.
7. Adjust the window.
8. Attend to mirror, furniture, fittings telephone, TV and radio, wiping, dusting and polishing as necessary.
9. Refill folder; replace cards, making sure that telephone directories are conveniently placed.
10. Attend to bathroom:
• Wash basin, bath, Water closet (commode)
• Wipe or dust all surfaces
• Put out clean towels, soap, and toilet paper
• Clean the floor according to kind
11. Vacuum upholstery and carpet by suitable vacuum cleaner.
12. Close the window and curtain. Switch off the light and switch on the air-condition in minimum position.
13. Give a final glance, close the door and update the room report.

Housekeeping (Bed Making process)

Materials Required For Bed Making
• Bedding-Bed (Cot), Mattress, Blanket (Quilt) and Pillow.
• Bed Linen- Mattress protector, Bed sheets, Pillow cases, Bed cover, Bed skirting.

Bed making procedure using two bed sheets

1. Remove the soiled linen from the bed i.e. bed sheets and pillow cases. Shake them properly in air and send them to the laundry if required. Ensure that no valuable are trapped within the folds.
2. Open out the fresh first sheet evenly and tuck it securely at the head, foot and the sides.
3. Open out the second fresh sheet and distribute it evenly over the first sheet. The second sheet should be placed in a wrong side up to the head of the mattress.
4. Open out the blanket and distribute it evenly on the second sheet, 6-8 inches away from head board.
5. Fold second sheet over the blanket.
6. Make mitre corner at foot the bed and tuck on both sides properly.
7. Put the pillow into fresh pillow case.
8. Place the bed cover ensuring it is right side up and falling equally around the bed. Keep the extra bed spread towards the head board to crease in between the pillow to make bed look appealing. The corners should be made properly.

Bed making procedure using three bed sheets
